On October 16, 2014, JASH held its first Beer Garden Event at Hokulani Waikiki’s luxurious rooftop pool. This idea was encouraged by Business Networking Committee Chair Tab Bowers and Culture Committee Chair Sal Miwa, who were a key factor in making this event a success.
Over 100 guests gathered in a Chōchin (Japanese Lantern) lit poolside with beer and Japanese-style pupus to eat while enjoying the rooftop’s beautiful view of Waikiki. This was an opportunity for JASH members to introduce friends and business partners to the Society, as well as provide guests a unique chance to relax and socialize with other members.
JASH Chair Daniel Dinell opened with comments on this new JASH event, and introduced new JASH President Lenny Yajima, who began her term on October 1 following President Emeritus Ed Hawkins’ official retirement. The evening ended with a humorously presented prize drawing and guests stuffed with beer, Yakisoba, Takoyaki, and Gyudon.
Special thanks to Aloha Beer’s Steve Sombrero and Andy Baker for donating the beer for this event. Thank you also to Hokulani for generously allowing JASH to use the hotel’s private rooftop space.
