The JASH 26th Annual Friendship Golf Classic was held on April 21st, 2016 at Hawaii Prince Golf Club in Ewa Beach. Mahalo to Tanioka’s Seafoods & Catering for providing the delicious bentos for lunch and a special thank you to Atsushi and Mayumi Takebayashi from Move4Japan for providing the outstanding yakisoba! Shochu donated from Kai Vodka was used for the JASH-traditional sake kanpai at noon, followed by a taiko shotgun sendoff performance by Dragon Beat.
With the taiko drums in the background, 150 golfers descended upon the course. Throughout the 18 holes, golfers enjoyed beautiful sunny and breezy weather, participated in various contests such as the Hole-in-One and Closest to the Pin contests, and enjoyed snacks and refreshments such as frozen fruit bars at Special Hole and inari and maki sushi at the Cold Towel station. A great time was had by all!
During the awards ceremony dinner, each participant received a door prize at their seat. The grand prize of a hotel stay and golf package at the Grand Wailea and Wailea Golf Course was awarded to 26th place team winners, John Hamakawa and Miles Takahashi. The grand prize trophy was awarded to Mr. Hamakawa and Mr. Takahashi by Consul General of Japan Yasushi Misawa. A wonderful dinner buffet prepared by the Bird of Paradise restaurant was enjoyed by all and the evening had a sweet ending with two delicious cakes from Liliha Bakery, donated by Golf Chair Alan Yamamoto.
JASH would like to thank our Tournament Sponsor Pacific Guardian Life for making this fundraiser a success this year. Thank you also to our other major sponsors, Titanium and Graphite sponsors, individual players, and many donors that supported our cause.
A big MAHALO to the volunteers that helped bring the tournament together! Thank you to volunteer Ray Tabata for taking photos throughout the hot and sunny day. Thank you to the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu for their continued support of the tournament – and special thanks to Consulate General of Japan Yasushi Misawa for presenting the trophy during our awards dinner.
We would also like to thank Kimo Kahoano for being a wonderful emcee for our program. His personality and great humor was the highlight of the evening. Finally, JASH gave a very special mahalo to the 2016 Golf Chair Alan Yamamoto, who assisted throughout the entire preparation period of the tournament in securing sponsors, teams and donations. Mahalo, Yama-san!
To all the teams and players that participated in the tournament, thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you next year!
