JAPAN-AMERICA SOCIETY OF HAWAII

“Opening Minds and Hearts in Friendship”

The Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) is a non-profit organization with a mission of promoting understanding and friendship between the people of Japan and the U.S. through the special and unique perspective of Hawaii. Our office is located in Honolulu, Hawaii and we serve the people of Hawaii by offering educational-programs for students from K to 12th grade as well as special-interest programs for our members and the general public.

Our educational programs focus on teaching the concept of “Different Perspectives.” There is no right or wrong way to look at things, just different ways to look at things. Our special-interest programs aim to feature different aspects of Japan, America, and Hawaii-related topics in areas such as business, economics, politics, culture, and environmental issues all with the purpose of enhancing understanding.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Dear JASH Ohana,

Originally from Nagoya, Japan and having lived in the US for over forty years, my personal background represents my passion for cultivating strong connections between Japan and the United States via Hawaii.

It is an honor to serve as your Chair, to represent the Society in the community, and to provide the leadership to help JASH thrive. Your Board of Directors shares my commitment toward proactively implementing strategic ideas that will strengthen and sustain JASH for the years ahead.

As we wind down the year, I hope that you will continue to support the Board, committee members, volunteers, and JASH staff, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver extensive educational programs, informative and enjoyable events like the Beer Garden Event, Golf Tournament, Annual Dinner, and Holiday Gala to business-related speaker programs.

JASH is indeed proud to be the only organization in Hawaii to provide large scale statewide and high-demand educational programs on Japan, like Japan-in-a-Suitcase and Japan Day, for public and private schools, through travel, competition, presentations, and events.

Lastly, we are thrilled to have former board member and cross-cultural executive Dr. Blair M.T. Odo head the JASH Office Team as Interim President. Please extend to her your aloha and support.

Your assistance is essential for ensuring that JASH continues its good work. Please give generously and attend events that interest you.

Aloha,

Sal Miwa
Chairman of the Board
