JIAS presentations in SY 2023-2024
Japan-in-a-Suitcase is a program that gives students in kindergarten through 5th grade the opportunity to learn about the concept of “Different Perspectives” through interactive activities comparing local and Japanese cultures.
A student from Honowai Elementary School wrote in a thank you letter, “Thank you for your fun presentation! I learned that the kids clean the classroom, eat in the classroom, and serve food in the classroom on time.” A student from Waikiki Elementary School commented in a thank you letter, “Thank you for showing us what school life is like in Japan. I learned that you have to wear indoor shoes and I learned some Japanese words.”
On June 19, 2024, an appreciation luncheon was held at Kanoya Sushi Grill and Bar for Japan-in-a-Suitcase (JIAS) volunteers. Due to prior engagements, not all volunteers were able to attend, though we were very happy to see our volunteer team grow this year! Thanks to their help, we had a great year of presentations.
Mahalo to all JIAS volunteers for their dedication to and support of the JASH JIAS program!
We are currently seeking more volunteers for JIAS. If you or someone you know may be interested, please contact Cindy Oshima at coshima@jashawaii.org.
