6th JASH Language Exchange (JASH LangX)
On March 8, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) hosted its 6th language exchange session, JASH LangX, at the JASH office. This welcoming event provided participants with an opportunity to connect, practice language skills, and experience JASH in a friendly and supportive setting.
Approximately 15 participants, including both JASH members and non-members, gathered to engage in English and Japanese conversations, fostering cultural exchange and building connections. Notably, 90% of the attendees were first-time LangX participants!
JASH LangX is a unique platform for improving language skills, learning about Japan, the U.S., and Hawaii, and making new friends in a relaxed environment.
Attendees enjoyed communicating in two languages at the JASH Office
Event Highlights
The session featured a special activity led by Iromusubi-sho (彩むすび書) from Japan—Ms. Makiko Moriya, Ms. Saori Ito, Ms. Kumiko Todano, and Ms. Yoriko Coleman. Participants had the chance to try their hand at Fudemoji, a Japanese calligraphy-style lettering that mimics brush strokes. The term combines fude (筆), meaning brush, and moji (文字), meaning character or letter. Attendees had a blast drawing with both their right and left hands, creating beautiful thank-you cards!
A Welcoming Space for All
Participants represented diverse backgrounds and language proficiency levels, united by their shared enthusiasm for learning and connection. JASH LangX’s inclusive environment ensures everyone, from beginners to advanced speakers, can enjoy meaningful conversations.
Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive:
Over 90% of participants strongly agreed with the statements, “I was satisfied with today’s language exchange session” and “I would like to participate in the next JASH Language Exchange session.”
