2024 Japan-U.S. Military Program (JUMP) in Honolulu
On October 25, 2024, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) had the honor of hosting the Japan-U.S. Military Program (JUMP) at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in Honolulu. Consul General Yoshinori Kodama graciously welcomed over 200 guests, including Japanese and American military service members, civilian government contractors, and local leaders, to this memorable event that continues to strengthen the longstanding bond between Japan and the United States.
The evening’s program opened with a vibrant performance by the Japan Training Squadron Band. JASH President Ms. Reyna Kaneko delivered the opening remarks, followed by welcome messages from Consul General Yoshinori Kodama, Hawaii Governor Josh Green, and Mr. Andrew Kawano, Director of Budget and Fiscal Services for the City & County of Honolulu. Dr. Satohiro Akimoto, Director of JUMP and President of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, underscored the value of cross-cultural programs in fostering U.S.-Japan connections.

JASH Chair Ms. Karen Knudsen offered the closing remarks, extending JASH’s gratitude to all partners and participants. We thank the Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA, and the Embassy of Japan, and Consul General Yoshinori Kodama for making this unique gathering possible. This year’s JUMP was a testament to the enduring friendship between Japan and the U.S.
A message of gratitude from a retired Colonel who has attended JUMP over the years:
“As expected, the JUMP Reception last evening was superb. Thanks to you and JASH for making it possible. The speakers were all on target and encouraging for all. One of the highlights of the evening (as well as past) was the opportunity to talk directly with the trainees to share family photos to hear of their travels over the last six months. And then, there was the Japanese opera tenor. He was fantastic. Mahalo again for inviting us to a very memorable evening.”
MAHALO NUI LOA!
