Japan-America Society of Hawaii Japan Day Fall 2023

On November 2, 2023, JASH held its Fall Japan Day program, sponsored by the McInerny Foundation and the Freeman Foundation. Approximately 200 students from Kalani High School, Kapaa High School, King Kekaulike High School, Konawaena High School, Pearl City High School, St. Joseph School, University Laboratory School, Waiakea High School, and Washington Middle School gathered at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii’s Generations Ballroom to enjoy the day’s activities.

JASH Japan Wizards Competition Sends 2023 Teams to Japan this Past Summer

On February 25, 2023, 108 students representing 18 high schools from Oahu, Hawaii, and Maui participated in the 20th Annual Japan-America Society of Hawaii’s (JASH) Japan Wizards Statewide Academic Team Competition (JWC) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Campus Center. The winning students and their advisors traveled to Japan this past summer to experience firsthand what they studied in their classrooms and independent research.

Peace Scholars Welcomed in Hiroshima

Our 2023 Hiroshima Peace Scholars, Yuuka Brown of Kalani High School and Reina Gammarino of Punahou School traveled to Hiroshima from July 30 to August 9 to learn about the history of World War II, learn from hibakusha atomic bomb survivors, and discuss current events and peacebuilding activities with their peers in Japan.

Youth Artists Spread Peace at Sadako Peace Projects

On March 25, 2023, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii in collaboration with Pacific Historic Parks welcomed the cast of Ohana Arts’ “Peace On Your Wings” as volunteers for our Sadako Peace Projects at Pearl Harbor National Memorial. “Peace On Your Wings” is inspired by the real-life story of Sadako Sasaki and her one-thousand paper cranes, sharing her message of courage, love, and peace.

Junior Ambassadors Selected to Represent Hawaii at the 35th Asian-Pacific Children's Convention

The Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) is pleased to announce the selection of four Junior Ambassadors (JAs) to represent JASH and Hawaii at the 35th Annual Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (APCC) in Fukuoka, Japan in summer 2023. This year will be the first year JAs will be able to travel to Fukuoka since the 2019 program due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Japan-America Society of Hawaii is excited to announce Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (APCC) Alumna Betsy Wo has been selected to represent JASH and the Bridge Club of Hawaii (BCH) in the APCC’s Special Peace Ambassador Program for 2022. Betsy originally participated in the APCC as a Junior Ambassador in 2011.
