On Tuesday, December 13, 2022 the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) in partnership with Keidanren USA, the Consulate General of Japan in Honolulu and the East-West Center convened for a seminar on Disaster Preparedness & Quick Recovery in Hawaii at the Hawaii Imin International Conference Center.
Sadako Peace Projects at Pearl Harbor National Memorial
On November 19, 2022, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii and Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) hosted high school and college volunteers at the Sadako Peace Projects (SPP) at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial.
2022 Japan-US Military Program in Honolulu

EPIC High School Exchange Program Participants Visit Hawaii
From September 30 – October 4, 2022, eight students from various Ehime high schools traveled to Hawaii to participate in a cultural exchange hosted by the Ehime Prefectural International Center (EPIC), which promotes cultural understanding and international cooperation through various programs and exchanges.

On Monday, October 10, 2022, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) held its annual Bridge Awards Dinner & Silent Auction, An Evening in Japan at the Sheraton Waikiki, Hawaii Ballroom.
JASH 5:01 Networking Pau Hana at Aloha Beer Co
On September 21, 2022, members of the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) were able to reconnect with old and new friends at the Aloha Beer Company. Mr. Steve Sombrero, owner of Aloha Beer Company and JASH Board Director, opened the HI BRAU Room at Aloha Beer to over 20 guests who enjoyed delicious pupu and drinks.
2022 APCC Junior Ambassadors Collaborate Across the Pacific in Bridge Virtual Summer Camp
Over the summer, following their adventures at Chozen-Ji and the ʻAkahiao Nature Institute, our four Junior Ambassadors (JAs) had two final JASH-led workshops on June 25 and July 9 to prepare them for sharing local culture with other youth leaders from around Asia and the Pacific and to practice using Zoom.
3rd Annual JASH NexGen Natsumatsuri
On August 17, 2022, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) hosted our Third Annual Natsumatsuri Summer Festival planned and produced by the JASH NexGen Advisory Committee. This year, the Ginza-themed festival was held in-person at the BSIDE lounge + venue at Ward Centre. Almost 200 guests enjoyed reconnecting with each other.
32nd Annual JASH Friendship Golf Classic
On July 18, 2022, JASH held its 32nd Annual Friendship Golf Classic at the Mid-Pacific Country Club. This year’s Classic was again presented by Pacific Guardian Life, a longtime supporter of JASH.
JASH APCC Alumna Betsy Wo Selected for Special Peace Ambassador Program
The Japan-America Society of Hawaii is excited to announce Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (APCC) Alumna Betsy Wo has been selected to represent JASH and the Bridge Club of Hawaii (BCH) in the APCC’s Special Peace Ambassador Program for 2022. Betsy originally participated in the APCC as a Junior Ambassador in 2011.
JASH APCC Junior Ambassadors Visit Chozen-Ji & ʻAkahiao Nature Institute
This summer, the Japan-America Society of Hawaii’s four Junior Ambassadors (JAs) are learning all about Japan and local Hawaii culture in preparation to represent Hawaii in this year’s Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention BRIDGE Virtual Summer Camp (APCC BVSC).

JASH held its Spring 2022 Japan Day program sponsored by the McInerny Foundation and the Freeman Foundation during the months of April through May via interactive video tutorials featuring bon dance, calligraphy, ikebana, karate, manga, Peace Studies/Sadako Sasaki Story, soroban, and tea ceremony.
Meet Our 2022 Junior Ambassadors
The Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH) is pleased to announce the selection of four Junior Ambassadors (JAs) to represent JASH and Hawaii at the 34th Annual Asian-Pacific Children’s Convention (APCC). This year’s JASH APCC program will be a hybrid program, combining in-person JASH preparatory workshops with virtual APCC activities.
Ehime Maru Memorial Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
On Thursday, March 24, 2022, the Ehime Maru Memorial Association (EMMA) hosted a special luncheon via Zoom celebrating the efforts of our dedicated volunteers from local Japanese American community groups who have donated numerous hours of service to clean and maintain the Ehime Maru Memorial in Kakaʻako Waterfront Park.
Storygami with Moanalua High School Japanese Club
The Japan-America Society of Hawaii (JASH), in collaboration with Moanalua High School Japanese Club, kicked off spring with a fun storytelling-origami session on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
Congratulations to our 2022 Japan Wizards Competition Winning Teams!
Congratulations to the 72 students who represented 15 high schools from Oahu, Hawaii and Maui at the 19th Annual JASH Japan Wizards Statewide Academic Team Competition (JWC)! Teams were comprised of three students each, with a total of 24 teams competing. The student-teams were tested on their knowledge of various Japan-related topics such as art, culture and tradition, food, geography, history, Japan-U.S./Hawaii ties, literature, politics and government, sports, contemporary Japan, and of course language.
2022 JUMP Program
This year, our annual JASH JUMP program was broadcast via Zoom on February 22, 2022. The program was formatted to encourage audience participation and to create an interactive space for our attendees. Approximately a third of the attendees were military service members or civilian government contractors who served in Japan. Additionally, a quarter of the attendees tuned in from the continental U.S., Canada, Japan, China and the Philippines.
EHIME MARU MEMORIAL CEREMONY - FEBRUARY 9, 2022
On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, the Ehime Maru Memorial Association (EMMA) held a remembrance ceremony for the 21st anniversary of the sinking of the Uwajima Fisheries High School training ship Ehime Maru at the Ehime Maru Memorial in Kaka‘ako Waterfront Park. The Ehime Maru suffered the loss of nine lives, including four students, two teachers, and three crew members after it was unexpectedly struck by the USS Greeneville submarine.
